Today I found a very interesting site which I'm sure some of you have come across. It's called GoodSearch, and it is a search engine, powered by Yahoo!, which donates 50% of it's revenue to the charitable organization of your choosing.
How simple, yet effective!
I am mentioning this for a couple of reasons-number one, I am impressed by it, of course. And number two, this endeavor is a perfect example of thinking uniquely and personally about how we can best be of service to those who need us. With GoodSearch, Ken Ramberg & JJ Ramberg (brother's & co-founders) have found a new way to be of service to others by utilizing their unique knowledge and talents.
Ken is a co-founder of JOBTRAK (later MonsterTrak) which, in 1988, was a cutting edge method of delivering jobs and information to college career services offices. It was a transition from the old, paper based way of doing things to a new, fax and then internet way of doing things. JobTrak was aquired by Monster in 2000 and became MonsterTrak.
JJ, is also a veteran in the information field. He is a former MSNBC anchor and the former Director of Marketing for cooking.com.
Annually, 8 BILLION dollars is generated by search engine advertisers. 8 BILLION!!!
So we are referring to numbers that a very significant. And since these are advertising dollars, the users and the charitable organizations don't spend a thing.
So considering that you don't spend a dime, and you aren't having to expend any extra time, GoodSearch is a perfect example of a "Why WOULDN"T you?" avenue of support.
GoodSearch launched in 2005 and in 2007 Ken and JJ added GoodShop, an online shopping mall which also helps to fund causes. Each purchase results in a donation of 3-20% of the sale going to the charity of your choosing.
I can't think of any reason why I or anyone else wouldn't use GoodSearch. So, why not? I encourage it and will do it myself.
As a final note:
GoodSearch is dedicated to Ken and JJ's mother, who passed away from cancer and who taught them both thatby working together with dogged dedication, we can really make this world a better place.
